Earlier Life
Wilbert Peter Wagner was born on December 5th 1906 in Johnstown, PA. His father was Peter Joseph Wagner who worked as a manufacturer at a soft drink factory and his mother was Margret V. Ritter. Wilbert had 11 siblings, 3 of which did not live out of one year, one died at 8 years old, and he other outlived Wilbert past the war. He grew up in Johnstown, which had a population around 55,000 at his birth, but decreased to around 18,000 by the time he died.

He attended Greater Johnstown Senior High School. He married Thelma Agnes Frank and had no children with her For work, he worked as a bookkeeper at the local steel mill. The war started in 1939 when he was 32. Wilbert enlisted 4 years later in 1944 at age 36 at a recruitment center in Altoona, PA. He later died at the battle of Normandy in 1944 and was buried at the Normandy American Cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer, France.
